Rachel Nicholson B.1934
Rachel Nicholson b.1934
Rachel Nicholson concerns are close to those of the early British Modernists both to subject matter and formal approach. Still life and landscapes and their close connection is at the heart of her work and over the years she has continued to develop and refine the theme with great originality
When looking at artists work it is, as always, right to buy what resonates with you so that you will cherish the work as it hangs in your home but it is also interesting what some other owner/collectors of Rachel Nicholson say about her work.
‘life enhancing’
‘Special objects, more valued, more special, more permanent than the view’
‘these carefully selected and arranged objects of appreciation are strategically placed, every object is carefully considered in relation to the next one ‘
‘Rachel Nicholson creates a backwater of calm in the hurly -burly of the twenty first century’
‘Rachel Nicholson brings us into a world without shadow or clouds or people and allows us to feel through the quiet elegance of the compositions. In the still life paintings , the objects feel like characters in a play, finely choreographed in truth and tension, some sensuous and open, while others are estranged and turn their uncommunicative backs on each other ‘
We here at Blondes Fine Art simply adore her work and love them hanging in our home , we are proud to own her work and find an amazing simplicity and tranquility in the subject and form .
Rachel’s parents were Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth , a triplet born in Hampstead, London in 1934 , she did not follow in their artistic path until later in life . Her first works are from 1975 and her first exhibition a few years later. He work was praised by her father who said about a painting at her first show ‘ I had never realised she could paint so well I would have been happy to have painted that one myself.
She remains a highly regarded and collected artist and is still exhibiting in her 90th year.
